With her solo magic performance, the eight-year-old girl beat four other finalists to emerge champion in the Supernova (Individual) category of the Hong Kong Talent Star Stage Kids 2014 last Sunday. Her pigeon-producing trick won the hearts of the judges in the finals of the Under 12 Talent Competition held at the Hong Kong Stadium in MacPherson, Mongkok.
Voo was among 24 finalists from seven countries – UK, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, India, Thailand and Malaysia – who vied for the top spot in the five respective categories.
These were Supernova (Individual), Rising Stars (Group), Shining Stars (Group), Nova (Individual) and Hypernova (Individual).
In 2012, she was the first runner-up in the 3rd Hong Kong Talent Star Contest held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
According to Voo's mother, Yenny Lo, 31, her daughter was invited to participate in the Hong Kong Talent Star Stage Kids 2014 without having to go through the audition and preliminary contest unlike other participants.
The invitation was based on the girl's excellent magic performance at the 3rd Hong Kong Talent Star Contest.
"We were pleasantly surprised to receive an email from the organisers with an offer for my child to enter the final round directly. Registration fees were also waived. It was too good to refuse," Lo said.
Last year, Voo also walked away with the championship title at the Malaysia International Magic Extravaganza 2012 held in Kuala Lumpur.

Charity Fund Raising Event 'Movember'
All male staff members at Sayfol International School Sabah grew moustaches/beards to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research. During the month of November 2013, the staff members participated in "Movember" and took on a 'no face shaving' policy to raise awareness of Men's health and Cancer Research!
The teachers successfully raised £185 (almost RM1000) for the charity. Click here to see the donation page.
A-Level Psycholinguistic Experiment
On Monday 3rd March, our A Level English students were gifted an opportunity to test theories of child directed speech and child language development on their class teacher’s three month old daughter – baby Scarlett. The students held a range of psycholinguistic experiments and collected some fantastic data. Well done Rubyanne Disimon, Nicole Ching Chee Hay and baby Scarlett. Thank you to Mr & Mrs Martin and all students and staff who participated.
